Crime and Environment Review

Animal Abuse:
Many circuses are using animals for entertaining shows, but they don't really care about the fact that animals were not created to force them to perform riding bicycles, balance on balls, etc. and trainers are maltreating animals using tight collars, electric prods, etc. just to make people laugh.
I think that they should leave animals in peace, because there are too many ways to do an entertaining show without abuse. Besides, people should know about this in order to avoid animal abuse and make trainers pay for what they are doing.

Fraud:
These years Intenet has been a good way of frauds, because there are thousands of people who make use of it, and in many cases we need to give personal infomation if we want to get an account or something like that. The worst thing is that many websites are controlled by criminals who use the Internet to rob people, and that makes them feel that they have lost privacy because of the fraud.
I think that if we want to make use of the Internet it is important to know that we are always at risk of being part of a fraud. Also, if we want to use accounts or buy something via Internet, we should look for more information about the website that is offering what we want.

Formal Transactional Letter

Dear Sir or Madam

According to the newspaper from last weekend I was very disappointed with the report about the building of a by-pass for Oldbury, which had a lack of information including lots of errors in the explanation of how the event occured.

The purpose of our demonstration was claiming not only for the extintion of a rare species of snail, but also for the destruction of woodland, a very important fact of our nature that was not mentioned in the report, however, we think that people should know about it as well as the consequences to our environment if the construction company builds a by-pass.

I also have some complaints about some details that you wrote according to the number of the people gathered in the demonstration, which was over 2.000 people and not 200 as you reported. Despite of this, the way that we made the demonstration was silent and pacific, so the information about that protesters sat in the road chanting slogans at workers and police is wrong, and the "troublemakers" as the spokesman for the council said, were not all from other parts of the country, but rather many of them were local residents who are concerned about the destruction of our natural territory.

On the other hand, I would like to ask you for a new report explaining how really was the demonstration and correct the errors of what you said last week. I would also be grateful if you could send a reporter to interview me so you can get information from reliable sources.

Yours sincerely,
Constanza Arellano

Mid-term Writting Task

Part One:

Dear Helen Ryan

I'm writting to thank for the good news on the letter I received from you. As reply for your quest, I would like to travel in July because I'm finishing my last semester at university and it is impossible for me to be in the competition before that month, so taking part at the Camp California in July would be amazing.

According to the accomodations I would prefer tents, because I like being connected with nature and taking advantage of staying in an uncommon place. Besides, I think that it is important to have the chance of staying or living in a different way and not being always thinking about our own bedrooms.

As well as the accomodations, the activities that I have chosen from the list are Climbing and Photography, which are also connected with nature and I'm very good at them due that I have participated many times before in different competitions in which I normally get at the three first places. However, I know that there is always many opportunities to learn something new doing these activities and getting more experience.

On the other hand, I would like to know what is the best clothe to wear during the camp and if it is necesary to bring some money. Apart from this, please let me know at what time should I be there.

Yours sincerely
Conny Arellano

Informal letter

Dear Sofia,

Sorry it's taken me so long to write, but I've been a bit busy and I just arrived to my house after participating on the celebration for the 30 years since Teletón started in 1978 in Chile. This is an important event which collects donated money from schools, companies, families or any other voluntary contribution from the whole country in order to help physically handicapped people. Every year Teletón carries out at the end of November or at the beginning of December for 27 hours uninterrupted.

The show started at the Teletón Theater showing a video with pictures, interviews, testimonies from people helped by Teletón and how this event has remained through 30 years in Chile. Then there were some music bands, humorists, famous people and handicapped people testifying their lives. Besides, every now and then Don Francisco, who directs the show every year, let people know how much money has been collected. Everything kept the same way till the next day, but on Saturday afternoon the show continued at the National Stadium with thousands of people, more music bands and many other performances till past 12 am.

The show was amazing and I enjoyed every moment taking pictures and asking autographs from famous people. Also, eating free food was great, but I think I should have contolled my appetite because later I was stuffed. Anyway, one of the most exciting moment was when Don Francisco said the last amount of money collected which exceeded the quantity that was set as goal, so at the end we were all celebrating and wathing the fireworks display.

Well, that's all from me. I'll try to write as soon as I can and send some pictures of the Teletón to you. Let me know what you've been doing recently.

Lots of love
Conny

Advantages and disadvantages - City

Living in the city could be very comfortable due the facilities that people have, but also is good to be aware of the consecuences of having a non-stop surrounding. But even so there are people that would never change their preferences of living in such a bustling place.

The main advantage of living in the city is the access to many things such as comunication, education, public transportation and a wide variety of entertainment. For example, people in the city are more connected to the world and related to different kind of cultures thus the environment becomes entertaining. Also everything is nearer than in the country side, so people from the city have many options to have fun, this means parks, pubs or discoteques, cinema, etc.

One of the main disadvantages is the pollution that affects our environment because of transportation, which also has negative aspects. Besides, some places of the city are very noisy as consequence of building constructions and nature territory is basically lost. But the worst thing is that people are every time more stressed as they have to lead with all these disadvantages.

In conclusion, there will be always negative aspects of living in the city but we are able to choose where we want to live or we can just get used to living there as many people are.

Shopaholic

Personally, I think that shopaholic people should think twice what they want to buy and how much money they can spend, because it is important to save some money in case something wrong happen, so they should learn to control themselves. Also it's important to pay our personal finances first before any attempt to buy something.

In my case, I'm not a shopaholic person because I always think that I can spend my money on something more important than what I'm looking at a specific moment, but the bad thing is that it's difficult for me to spend my money and I barely give myself a treat.

It's hard to give an advice to someone who suffers from shopaholic because we can't manage their money or being with them every time they go shopping, but apart from this, we can at least let them know the consecuences of spending too much money.

Letter of Complaint

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service that I have received from the Brighton Marina Coaches with its shopping trip in France that it was supposed to be exactly as your publication.

Firstly, the coach departed at 8.30 am and not at 7.30 as it was programmed, so we all had to wait for the driver who was late and even in a bad mood, therefore I personally think that he was such a disrespectful person. Apart from this, the hypermarket at Boulogne was too crowded and I could not queue up for the checkouts because we only spend 1 hour in Boulonge which means that I could not buy anything.

To make matters worse, the air-conditioning was not working and coffee was the only drink they had in the coach, so we had to stand the hot trip thinking that we were going to drink something at the restaurants, but when everybody thought that we could buy some cold drinks and eat some tasty food from Haute Ville we saw that restaurants were closed as well as the antique shops. Besides, after wasting the whole day for nothing, I got home at 11.30 pm when the coach was supposed to return at 9.00 pm.

As you can imagine, I am very disappointed with the service offered by the Brighton Marina Coaches, so I think it would be fair if you give me 50% of the money back to my personal account.

Yours faithfully

C. Arellano

A Short Story

It was a May evening when my mother and I wanted to buy something to have a snack. My mom was holding my arm as she usually does while we were waiting to cross the street. We had been waiting for the green light when suddenly heard the siren of the police car and some shots. Everything was going very well until that unexpected moment.

As we looked to the police we knew that they were trying to stop some thieves, which were driving a stolen car. So as soon as we realized that we were in the middle of a dangerous situation we started to run in order to come into a build to take cover from the shots.

When my mother and I thought that we were almost saved while we were running, I looked back to see what was happening and immediately got scared when I saw the car coming straight to us, and then the worst thing that we were trying to avoid occured in that moment, the stolen car had just knocked me down.

I don't know how I got up, but the truth is that I didn't care the pain or if I was injured, I just wanted to know how my mother was in that terrible moment, but I felt relieved when I knew she was fine. I just thank God that even though the car could have killed us, we are still alive and we got nothing serious except some bruises.

Film Review: The Lord Of The Rings

The lord of the rings is a film based on the fantasy novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien, but because of the length of the story the film had to be modified in three sections, which are "The fellowship of the ring", "The two towers" and "The return of the king".

The plot of the story is about a powerful ring that has to be destroyed in order to save the world from the dark lord Sauron, who created the ring to control the whole middle earth in a bad way.
The main character is Frodo Baggins, a hobbit whose mission is to destroy the ring and save the mankind from all of those orcs and beasts that try to take the ring away from him and make Sauron's will. So there are a lot of wars to win with Frodo's friends which help him to achieve the ring's destruction, but the group of friends is getting separated as more enemies appear on their way.

On the other hand, the story is developed in many places owing to the people of the middle earth is involved in the future of the whole society. Besides, every place has it's respective ethnic group, for example Hobbits, Elfs and Dwarfs among others.

Personally I think this is a great movie because the story has a good sequence even when is divided in three sections. Also I like the special effects that give us an idea of how the middle earth is. Beside this, I think that the sountracks and the cast were amazing so I never get bored of watching the movie.

The computer has greatly improved our lives today

Computers advances have been very important for society, no matter workers or students, most of the people have to lead with different computer programs in their lives, even though some people still have to get used of them every day.

On the positive side, computers are giving us a lot of facilities and a big variety of information which is constantly updating. Also is a good way to communicate the news or getting in touch with friends from everywhere. Another advantage is that computers are easier to use than before, because they had too many things to make it work.

On the negative side, there are some people that have been refused to use computers thinking that is a hard thing to learn or they just don't have chances to make use of them. Besides this, there is always a new model with better caracteristics than old computers which is not so bad, but if we get a new one it makes us transfer our information from one computer to another every time that we want to get a new model.

In conclusion, computers have been a masive way to improve our lives as long as we are making use of them, but it's almost sure that there will be always some people who won't be interested in taking part of this technology.

Letter to Mark

Dear Mark,

Thanks a lot for the letter, I'm so glad to hear from you. The house is still a mess but I've been settling little by little. On the other hand, your life in the farm sounds great even though you've got to work very hard every day.

As I said, my new house is a mess but I've been getting used to live here so well that I've even made some new friends in the neighbourhood. Most of them are studing at university while others already have a job, but either studing or working we all have a similar lifestyle. The best thing of the new house is that it doesn't take me so long to get somewhere and anything I need is nearer than before.

By the way, I'm so happy for Lady and I'd love to see her puppies. I think this summer is perfect to go to your house and I'm very excited about helping you with the harvest. Besides that, it would be nice to spend some weeks with your family in the farm.

Anyway, I'd better close now, I've got a lot of things to do in the house and then I have to go to visit my parents for a dinner. Can't wait to hear from you.

All the best
Conny

If everyone cared - Nickelback

From underneath the trees, we watch the sky
Confusing stars for satellites
I never dreamed that you'd be mine
But here we are, we're here tonight

Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive

If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died

And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along

And as we lie beneath the stars
We realize how small we are
If they could love like you and me
Imagine what the world could be
..............................

I like this song because I think it makes people realize that we can change the world for better and prevent the damages that we are causing to the earth.

Hi there!!

Hi classmates, welcome to my blog...

My name is Conny, I'm 21 years old and I live in Santiago, Chile.
Some of the things that I'm into is to study English, playing my bass and going out with my friends from time to time.
I really enjoy learning languages. Actually I'm not only learning English, but also a bit of German, and I'd really like to learn more languages as well. On the other hand, one of my biggest dream is to travel around the world, so I hope I can make it come true.
